RICH CITY
How did we get here? How do we leave?
We’re on a mission to change the way people view those who live on our streets; we seek to give voice to the voiceless. We’re not just telling stories that matter; we’re working to spark conversations that will actually lead to solutions.
The Story Behind This Project.
Despite well-intentioned policies, initiatives, and activism, the hard truth is the homeless crisis is worsening, with more people living on the streets than ever before.
This film seeks to tell powerful stories from those impacted the most and explore and help define the deep-rooted factors that drive homelessness.
Over the last two years, our director Daniel Dart has been walking Skid Row talking to the people who live, trying to find answers to help find a solution to the crisis. That is where the idea for this film came to pass. The stories and conversations are so powerful, that we knew we needed to find a way to amplify their message and share it. And that is exactly what we are doing to do.
To make the project come to life our team is working at ground zero of the homelessness epidemic, Los Angeles' Skid Row. Heading out late at night we meet and have powerful conversations with people who've lost loved ones, who've lost jobs, who have addiction problems, who suffer from mental illness, and who simply have been unable to get back on their feet and off the streets.
At the heart of these conversations are two simple yet profound questions: Why are people homeless and how can we fix it?
The responses to those two simple questions will amaze you, and haunt you, and bring you to tears. Why can't we seem to get it right? That is what we hope to answer.
